The Next to No Cost Valentine’s

Valentine’s Day is a great chance to remind your partner just why you love them as much as you do. In our every day relationships it can be all too easy to start to take one another for granted. However, when Valentine’s Day comes around, you need to share a little bit of love and perhaps give them a gift or treat to show them just how much they mean to you.

The only trouble with Valentine’s Day, and the reason why many people seem to have something against it, is because it can be a whole lot of expense. Whilst you may not mind spending money on your loved one, sometimes in our lives, money can be tight.

Does this mean that you have to miss out on Valentine’s Day altogether? We don’t think so. In fact, there are plenty of ways that you can have a romantic Valentine’s Day, yet still save yourself some money. To help inspire you, we have put together our top tips for a next to no cost Valentine’s.

Pick flowers, don’t buy

One of the most common Valentine’s gifts that you can buy someone is flowers and not only are flowers beautiful, but they brighten up your home too. The only trouble with flowers, especially around Valentine’s Day is that they can be really expensive. An alternative, but one that you need to make sure that you can do within the law, is to pick your flowers, rather than buy them. There are so many beautiful wild flowers around that you are definitely going to be able to make a beautiful bouquet. But you do need to make sure that you are not breaking any rules.

Gift them with things you will do for them

Whilst a gift of chocolates, flowers or a favourite perfume or aftershave is great. There are other ways that you can go about giving a great gift to someone. In long-term relationships, especially if you have children, it can be all too easy to take each other for granted. So, why not make your Valentine’s Day gift all about the other person? You could make a voucher book which contains a number of cards or vouchers, which the can cash in for a number of treats. This could be breakfast in bed, a lie in, a long bath or perhaps a date night. You can really tailor this gift to match in with the things that the other person would love.

Make your own card

Cards are everywhere on the run up to Valentine’s Day and they are plenty of them out there to choose from. However, if you want to save yourself some money and also make sure that your card is 100% personal, then you can always make your own card. It might not be quite the artistic masterpiece that you can see on the high street and in online stores, but, one thing is for sure, there won’t be any other cards out there like it.

Sometimes it is thought that matters more than the gifts

As humans we like to receive gifts, but sometimes, the best thing that someone can give us is their time. Of course, you may worry that not buying a Valentine’s Day gift for your special someone is going to make them feel less than special, but if you spoke to them, you may find it is quite the opposite. Sometimes, all that person wants is for you to sit down and have some time together. That could be a takeaway, just the two of you or perhaps an evening of watching a movie. The idea is that you make the time for one another and that you are enjoying one another’s company.

Make chocolates and sweets

Another great hand-made Valentine’s gift is to make an effort to create your own chocolates or sweet treats. Making chocolate isn’t always easy, but we can promise you that if you find and follow a great recipe, then you won’t be disappointed and all the effort will be worthwhile. Of course, if chocolates are really not your thing then there are a whole host of other recipes that you can try out for yourself, including cupcakes and biscuits too.

Valentine’s Day may be all about romance, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be all about cost too. Sometimes, all it takes is some thinking outside of the box and you can make sure that your partner feels special, whilst you save yourself some money too.

Best of all, if you do save yourself some money on gifts and cards, then you could spend the money enjoying a delicious dinner or putting it away for a rare date night, which will make it feel all the more special.
